Washita River Wildhorse Creek

Photograph of flood prevention. Watershed Treatment - Washita River - Wildhorse Creek. Farm pond under construction for livestock water and gully erositon control. A 10 inch pipe will be installed for flood water control and spillway protection. A waterway will be constructed below pond to carry water to Wildhorse Creek. It will carry water from 80 ac. field in upper left corner after vegetation is well established. Diversion in lower right will also spill into waterway. About 500 acres of good bottomland will be protected from silt and overflow by these practices. Note saw logs which have been removed from bottomland.

Lake Humphries Dam Fertilizer Application

It was decided that the dam and spillways of existing structures owned by the city of Duncan need an application of fertilizer. In picture is city employee spreading 44% of nitrate on bermuda grass sods.

Watersheds Benefits

Photograph of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company laying a telephone cable across Site 16 Wildhorse Creek. Cable is layed about 36" deep but was raised to about 12" deep to cross the dam and forebay of the spillway. Being able to cross this structure saved the company sevaral thousand dollars by being able to make a short cut.

Wildhorse Watershed Waterway

Photograph of waterway. This gully was a critical silt source area on the flood plain of Wildhorse Watershed. Gully was shaped into a watersay and a pond was built at the head of it with a pipe in it (Ok-14131-3 & 4). Waterway will be needed this fall and sprigged with rows 18' apart, and fertilized. Soil is 7s-C-13.
