Edmondson Sunday accused the opposition of "deceit and deception" and trying to protect the old guard political machine in the battle against his three initiative reform measures. He announced to a cheering crowd of supporters that 74,068 signatures have been obtained to the county option road plan and it can be filed. only about 45,000 signatures are needed for the proposed statute. He called for concentration in the final drive for signatures of the proposed constitutional amendments for reapportionment of the legislature and a constitutional highway commission....Before the rally, more than 600 persons attended an open house at the governor's mansion. John Criswell, the governor's press secretary, said his conversations with guests indicated about half came from outside Oklahoma County........Reports were given by a few workers from over the state. Whit pate, attorney in charge of circulation of the initative pettitions, told the crowd the governor would give the number of signatures to the county road plan …
