Graham Flat Enclosure

Photograph of the Graham Flat Enclosure on the west end of Graham Flat in the east part of the Big Game Pasture. Flats site (loamy bottom in excellent condition, light utilization). Flattened appearance of vegetation near enclosure is largely due to characteristic lodging of big bluestem, plus some trampling and bedding damage by buffalo.

Photograph of little bluestem advancing into flat from adjacent higher ground. This area was a prairie dog townh before th3ey were killed out. Dominant vegetation is silver bluestem, curlycup gumweed, blue grama, and buffalograss. West end of Big Game Pasture, in Fullingim Flat east of enclosure.

Left was in area grazed by commercail cattle and horses until 1937 when all commercial cattle permits were cancelled. By 1937, the buffalo in the 8000 acre pasture had increased to 416. In addition, 27 longhorns were put to pasture in 1927. West end of the Big Game Pasture. OK-1105-8.
