Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "What a difference a few hours make. When this picture was taken Moday noon, Raymond Gary, left at the top of the marble stairs, was governor and J. Howard Edmondson, beside him, was simply a citizen. It was Gov. Edmondson and citizen Gary, following the inauguration ceremony pictured above just before the transition. Gov. J. Howard Edmondson started working Tuesday at making his dreams come true. The red-haired, silver-tongued young governor moved into his suite of offices at the state-house, and was scheduled to address the 27th legislature at 2 p.m. He was to place before the house and senate one of the most controversial reform programs ever embraced by an Oklahoma governor......Edmondson said he also dreams of bringing new industries to Oklahoma so that 75,000 new factory jobs can be provided. he dreams of an increase of 250,000 inpopulation during the next four years, and of an educational system "second to none."........Mrs. Edmondson, 53, collapsed at the start of the reception and was rushed under oxygen to St. Anthony hospital here. She suffered from heart palpitations but physicians said her conditions was satisfactory and she probably would …

State employes, interested parties and citizens packed the house gallery Monday for the formal speech and other Oklahomans looked in on television. Lawmakers listened attentively and with marked silence during the address and then gave the 33-year-old governor a standing ovation. The studied attitude of the legislature can bee seen in the faces of Heber Finch jr., house member, and Everett Collins, both in the foreground and both from Sapulpa."

Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "The morning after the night before is horrible, even if it follows a bone-dry inauural ball. Gov. Edmondson would have been shocked at what city cleanup crews saw at the fairgrounds Tuesday morning. Some of the debris under deserted ballroom tables looked just like whisky bottles. A photographer who knows more about such things, explained that harsh light of the morning sun was just creating optical illusions. But it was the first time we ever held one up and examined the brand. For two cents we'd have called Mack Burks, chairman of the victory dance. our snap judgement was that some of the guests had cheated. After the pains Burks took last week to make it plain Gov. Edmondson would brook no tippling, we figured he should have been told. Thankfully, though, our reason returned before we embarrassed the man. the explanation was clear: Sme of the celebrants thought the new governor had said Big Red Tea instead of Big Red E, and they'fbrought it in whatever was at hand............And, too, he's going to repeal prohobition, anyway. Just like he told the legislature Tuesday afternoon."

Gary and the new chief executive emerge from the south door of the capitol and start down the long south steps with "ruffles and flourishes." They passed between stiff lines of 45th division Thunderbirds and air national guardsmen while a whole battery of citizen photographers stretched to capture the historic pomp on film. At right, Edmondson the red-haired former Tulsa prosector, delievers inaugral address. in the first row a daughter, Jean, his wife, Jeanette; daughter Patty and Mrs. Gary. Behind Mrs. Gary is Rep. Ed Edmondson, the governor's older brother, who is the second district representative in congress. Approxinately 6,000 persons turned out. J. Howard Edmondson was the calmest of 6,000 persons at the state capitol Monday when the 33-year-old redhead marched down the long steps, raised his hand and promised to take over the burdens of state government for four years. From the time Edmondson walked into the capitol at 10:55 a.m. until he officially became governor at 12:15 p.m., he was calm. As aids scurried around worrying about last minuted details, Edmondson was calm. As outgoing governor Raymond Gary shuffled his feet, …
