The latex mask is connected to breathing tubes. You may think you want to get away from it all. But a research project at Veterans Admisistration hospital which provides maximum isolation from people and things proves you can get too much peace and quiet - in a hurry. Masked researchers participating in the project look like carlooned invaders from another planet. However, while the research has application to space travel, Dr. Jay T. Shurley, chief og psychiatry at VA hospital, insists he is more interested in probing the mysteries of the mental illnesses of earthbound subjects. "This world's problems intiated the research and the space age overtook us," Dr. Shurley points out.
