Some Important Parameters of the Plasma Diode (open access)

Some Important Parameters of the Plasma Diode

From abstract: "A relationship is derived that predicts the power radiated from the cathode to the anode of the plasma diode. The radiated power loss predicted by this relationship for a tungsten cathode and a nickel anode at widely different temperatures is found to be five times greater than the prediction of the conventional relationship which assumes gray-body conditions."

Techniques Used For The Production And Identification Of The Transplutonium Elements

The last fifteen years have seen the discovery of ten transuranic elements. This paper (presented at the Mendeleev Chemistry Conference in Moscow) deals only with the transplutonium elements, i.e., those elements with atomic number greater than 94. This will be a detailed discussion of the techniques that have been devised for producing and identifying elements 101 and 102 and the possible applications of these methods to elements beyond. There will also be a brief review of the discovery of all the transplutonium elements to show the gradual change in experimental methods from the early days.

Temperatures and Thermal Stresses in Hexagonal Tubes and Pierced Plates With Internal Heat Sources (open access)

Temperatures and Thermal Stresses in Hexagonal Tubes and Pierced Plates With Internal Heat Sources

From abstract: "Steady temperatures and thermal stresses are determined for long hexagonal tubes having round holes for the case of uniform internal heat generation and a fluid-cooled inside surface. Thermal stresses are also determined for thick plates pierced by holes on an equilateral triangular pattern and for hexagonal tubes having a hexagonal hole with rounded inside corners. Stresses in the end regions of tubes are also investigated."

Toy Top Plasma Injector

Introduction: "It is the purpose of this note to describe the construction and operation of the plasma injectors used in the magnetic high compression experiments in progress at the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory at Livermore. As the investigations of these injections is still in progress, remarks concerning their operation or the characteristics of the injected plasma are of a tentative nature."

Transistor Driven Beam Switching Tube Decade Counter (open access)

Transistor Driven Beam Switching Tube Decade Counter

Abstract: "This paper describes an electrical readout, decade counter employing the magnetron beam switching tube with transistor drive. Double pulse resolution is one microsecond. The unit will accept a variety of transistor types and will tolerate supply voltage variations of +/- 20% at ambient temperatures up to 60 C. A "Pixie" neon indicator is driven without the use of additional transistors. A readout circuit for printer on punched paper tape is presented."
