Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "A naked, 34-year-old man was removed from a homemade mental detention cell in a truck bed Saturday by sheriff's deputies. The man, Arthur Ferdinand Davenport, had been kept locked up or in chains for nearly 10 years by his parents after they had removed him from Central State hospital at Norman. "He is getting better treatment here than he ever got at Norman," his mother, Mrs. Otto D. Davenport, a registered nurse, insisted. "He was nearly dead and had a broken nose and was badly beaten when we went down to get him. The elder Davenport, who said he is a real estate broker, declared the couple had decided to take care of Arthur themselves rather than keep him in a mental institution. Officers found the homemade "treatment" center in a vacant lot approximately a block north of 6500 SE 29. A house on a front lot shielded the truck from view of the road.......Arthur looked through the bars and responded cheerfully to a greeting from Sheriff Bob Turner Saturday as deputies entered the truck....."
