Mahon discourses on the repeal of the Taft-Hartley Bill and the adoption of the so-called Civil Rights Program and on the reason Truman took Texas in the election. He states that there are many things advocated by the Democratic platform and the President which he cannot and will not support and advises of the need for economy in the regular agencies of the government but not the military. In discussing Carswell's references to Mahon's Senatorial possiblities Mahon agrees that is takes "many thousands of dollars" to run for the Senate; "It is a weakness of our democracy that men must often compromise themselves in order to get money to finance state-wide campaigns", but he promises to keep Carswell's thoughts in that "connection" in mind.
