Burleson discusses the Labor Bill and advises Carswell that he voted against the Wood Amendment and the Administration's "so-called" Substitute Bill to retain the Taft-Hartley Law; he voted for recommittal of the Lesinski Bill, which included the Wood Amendment. Burleson comments on legislative procedures, how complicated it has been and his doubts concerning future legislation involving the Taft-Hartley Law.

A letter written to Uncle Norwood [T. N. Carswell] from Martha V. Carswell & SIS [Vella Carswell], Homerville, Georgia, dated January 29, 1949. Martha and Vella advise Carswell about the folks at home. Ashley, at 24 years of age, is having financial difficulties and his wife Martha is five months along and has been advised by Dr. Schanze to stay in bed. They advise that Homerville is changing; paving roads and cutting down trees about which Papa is pitching a fit. Martha advises that Mama wrote the letter and she typed it. She has a nice job down in the Ordinary's Office.

A letter written to Horace J. Blackwell, Dallas, Texas from T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, dated July 24, 1949. Carswell appeals "as a friend in need of aid" requesting Blackwell's help to find employment for Peggy in Dallas without her knowing that he has asked for help.

A letter written to Louis A. Johnson, Secretary of Defense, Washington, D. C., from T. N. Carswell, dated June 6, 1949. Carswell advises of the needs of a "wholly dependent mother, helplessly ill, of an enlisted man" and requests information regarding U. S. Army help for the families of enlisted men. He requests that the proper authority in their Department reply as to "what the Army can do if it wants to", that the Army can do something if it wants to, therefore, this inquiry is to find out what it can do.

Carswell extends his congratulations to the Trypod Club members on the completion of a highly successful year's work noting that he feels a share in the achievements of the Club. He advises of a "token of appreciation" attached to the letter.

Carswell criticizes the Buchanan report; "My concordance and I are unable to find in the New Testament any authority for the setting up of a Baptist oligarchy"; he advises that the report "be permanently stored in a polar cache" which is comparable to the atmosphere "in Southern Baptistdom" that would be created if the proposal was adopted.
