Betty Williams of Okmulgee, driving Sweet Sue, grabbed the lead in the first heat of the 16-horsepower competition as she churned around the west buoys of the first lap, but Al Mounatore of Sherman, Texas, who is almost covered up by the spray from Mrs. Williams' boat, came on to win.
