Tornadoes and strong straight straight winds left havoc at Canton. Longdale, Blackwell and a private airport north of Enid. Then it dipped down to smash farm homes near Winfield, Kan. Three persons were killed in Oklahoma, a score injured. Canton was hit hardest. two persons diesd there. Many homes were leveled. Business houses were badly damaged It was hard to get an accurete estimate of property damage. Numbered arrows point to the same structure in companion pictures. the storm hit Canton at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday. It moved northeast during the night, finally dipping near Winfield about 4 a.m. Wednesday's storm was the second for Oklahoma this spring. Last Saturday, twisting winds roared through Haywood and Crowder in eastern Oklhoma. Two persons were killed. The damage was $200,000 in that storm. Caption: "Here's how a big city-state highway project emerges from the blueprint stage, and begins to take shape as the new bypass route on U.S. 66. In the foreground is a culvert form, and beyond that the big tread marks left by the tires of heavy earth-moving equipment trace the general path of the new road from the southeast corner of NE 63 and Eastern over the hill in the extreme background, around a bend in Deep Fork creek, and on to connect with Lincoln at about NE 50. This is the first section of the by-pass route, and construction work is being done by W. E. Logan & Sons, Muskogee contractors, whose low bid of $508,806 won the job."
