Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "This is how the North Canadian river looks Tuesday afternoon as huge ice cakes flowing toward Lake Overholser piled up behind a bridge on SW 4 two miles north of Yukon. State highway department crews, posted on the bridge, used picks, shovels and long poles to ship away at the ice and keep it flowing under the structure. Stoner McCleeland, chief highway engineer, said Tuesday night the bridge still was holding its own against the tons of pressure, and his crews had not yet been forced to use explosives to break the jam. He said the ice may be a threat to the span for several days, however, because the sand-filled river bottom is no more than two feet below the bridge substructure. Thus, the normal water line almost reaches the roadway.and as long as there is ice on the water it will pile up. In his 25 years with the highway department, McClelland does not remember a bridge in Oklahoma damaged by an ice jam."
