a letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from George--George Mahon, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C., dated February 9, 1949. Mahon discourses on the repeal of the Taft-Hartley Bill and the adoption of the so-called Civil Rights Program and on the reason Truman took Texas in the election. He states that there are many things advocated by the Democratic platform and the President which he cannot and will not support and advises of the need for economy in the regular agencies of the government but not the military. In discussing Carswell's references to Mahon's Senatorial possiblities Mahon agrees that is takes "many thousands of dollars" to run for the Senate; "It is a weakness of our democracy that men must often compromise themselves in order to get money to finance state-wide campaigns", but he promises to keep Carswell's thoughts in that "connection" in mind.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Tom Connally, United States Senate, dated March 16, 1949. Connally confirms that he read carefully the views and recommendations Carswell made regarding the pending labor legislation. He advises Carswell of his approval of the Hoover Commission proposals.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Public Accountant, Abilene, Texas, from Omar Burleson, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C., dated May 10, 1949. Burleson discusses the Labor Bill and advises Carswell that he voted against the Wood Amendment and the Administration's "so-called" Substitute Bill to retain the Taft-Hartley Law; he voted for recommittal of the Lesinski Bill, which included the Wood Amendment. Burleson comments on legislative procedures, how complicated it has been and his doubts concerning future legislation involving the Taft-Hartley Law.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Esq., Travel Agent - Public Accountant, Abilene, Texas, from C. J. Barry, Administrative Secretary, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Washington, dated June 8, 1949. Barry advises that the Secretary requested that he inform Carswell that the officials of the Army are best quailified to answer Carswell's questions regarding aid for the families of enlisted men.

Carswell extends his congratulations to the Trypod Club members on the completion of a highly successful year's work noting that he feels a share in the achievements of the Club. He advises of a "token of appreciation" attached to the letter.
