He tells of a friend who came back from the Rest Camp recently, with whom he compared the sights of Rome, and explains that someone broke into his footlocker and stole a fountain pen he'd gotten from Robert Evans, Jr., as well as a hunting knife. He wonders what kind of soldier would do something like that, and seems sure that the perpetrator will be caught.

He talks about the weather, and says that the food is getting bad because it's all canned, so her box is very welcome. He expresses hope that a relative made it safely to France.
