Dilworth discusses the question of whether the appropriation for Danforth's campaign is a legitimate expense such as may be authorized by action of the Department Executive Committee. He advises that Carswell is rendering the Legionnaires a real service by bringing the matter to their attention. Dilworth confirms that this issue is turning out as both he and Carswell prophesied. Dilworth compares this appropriation of funds stating, "Any one who would introduce a measure in the legislature of Texas to appropriate a sum of money for the purpose of electing Coke Stevenson President of the United States would so shock the public conscience that he would be adjudged a lunatic. Yet that is exactly what the Department Executive Committee of the Texas Department is doing."

A letter written to Mr. Carswell from Mrs. Caldwell, Clyde Texas, dated November 14, 1944. Caldwell expresses her appreciation for the letter from Carswell and for his friendship advising that she had heard Walter say many times that "there isn't any one in the world, outside my own family, that I love more than I do Tommy Carswell". She discusses Walter's death and her decision to stay in their home in order to have a place for the children to come together.

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from J. D. Sandefer, Jr., Breckenridge, Texas dated November 10, 1944. Sandefer announces an upcoming meeting of the trustees of Hardin-Simmons University listing the matters to be discussed including the type of building to be erected as the Sandefer Memorial noting that it has been twenty-five years since a major building has been built on campus. Sandefer handwrites a postscript stressing his hope that Carswell will be present.

A form letter from L. M. Fellbaum, Major, Q. M. C., Chief, Field Division, For the Director, Selective Service System dated November 9, 1944. Advisement by Fellbaum that the local boards should reclassify all 1-C(H)'s into 1-C that are in the armed forces without regard to age, and those registrants separated from the armed forces into 1-C"Disc" or IV-F"Disc".

Letter from Thompson, Wallace C. to W. J. Bryan thanking him for the letter he sent and informing Mr. Bryan that he recently spoke with Senator McDonald Meachum. Mr. Thompson also inquires about the political scene in Abilene and informs Mr. Bryan about the situation in Houston, Texas.

Sandefer expresses his appreciation for the letter from Carswell and for his thoughts. He expresses his regret that Carswell was not at the meeting and requests his suggestions for the campaign.
