Col., 142nd Infantry, Asst. to Adjutant General, Adjutant General's Department, State of Texas, Austin. Reply letter from Mason, advising of the compliance with Carswell's request of October 24; the companies commanded by Brownlee and Carswell have been eliminated but, in view of the forecasted attitude of the War Department, the application may be delayed. Enclosure includes: Personal note written to Mr. T. N. Carswell from Sid--Sidney C. Mason reminding Carswell of a time when Wilson Gunn, one bullsnake and the writer "had to do with you around the hallowed portals of old Cowden Hall".
