Caption: "A 38-year-old man, formely a prosperous San Francisco businessman, plunged seven stories to his death from the Wells-Roberts Hotel Tuesday afternoon. A moment after he leaped, the hotel switchboard lighted up, and a woman's voice asked to speak to "905." Following a brief pause, operator Agnes Ward told the caller, "He doesn't answer." The woman hung up. Hotel assistant manager Jack Briscoe identified the dead man as Lowell Burton Brown. He said Brown signed the register early Sunday, giving Augusta, Kan., as his home. Briscoe said a woman had been calling Brown all day, but Brown wouldn't answer the phone. At 2 p.m. Brown called the switchboard and told the operate to call a doctor to "pronounce me dead. I'm going to jump." He named a city physicians as the one he wanted called. He Falls About 90 Feet "I figured it was just another drunk with a stunt. but thought I'd better check. I found the engineer and we went up there," Briscoe said. "Just as I opened the door, he yelled, 'I want you to see this.' Then he sort of squatted down and plunged right out …
