A Western Union telegram sent to Mrs. Worth H. Clark, Ocala, Florida, from Norwood & Virginia, dated December 18, 1940. Carswell expresses their grief regarding the death of Worth hoping that his brother Allen was already there. They would not be able to go but to phone or wire anything she needed and was praying that God bless, comfort and keep close to her.

A letter addressed to the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, Washinigton, D. C., from T. N. Carswell, Post Commander, dated December 16, 1940. Copy to Robert L. Murray. Carswell advises the Commission of the wishes of Parramore Post No. 57 regarding the controversy between the ASCAP and the National Broadcasting Company.

The document announces a meeting to be held in Abilene, Texas, Thursday December 12 [1940] at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church. "Purpose of the meeting: To canvas the liquor drug store situation in our dry territory, and plan for corrective measures through our representatives in the State's lawmaking body." Senatorial District No. 24 is composed of Mitchell, Scurry, Nolan, Fisher, Haskell, Jones, Taylor, Callahan, Shackleford, Throckmorton, Stephens and Eastland Counties.

The committee endorses the plan of the Texas United Drys to frame proposed legislation that will protect Dry Territory against indiscriminate sale of liquor by prescription in said Dry Territory; makes a recommendation that an organization in each County of said 24th District be set up to further the cause and purpose of the Texas United Drys; "a permanent district organization was set up with T. N. Carswell, Chairman, J. D. Riddle, Secretary and C. A. Long, Treasurer".

An appeal for support for a fund for the retention of the present law allowing druggists to dispense liquor through prescriptions. A letter addressed to Comrades, from Robert L. Murray, ASCAP, Thirty Rockefeller Plaza, New York, N. Y., dated November 29, 1940. Murray advises that all ASCAP music is to be barred from radio beginning January 1, 1941 and requests they write the Federal Communications Commission, have their Posts pass resolutions and send copies to their Senators, Representatives and Governors.

A letter written to Mr. T. H. Curry, Superintendent, Wylie Consolidated School, Abilene, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, Post Commander, dated October 30, 1940. Carswell accepts the invitation for the American Legion to assist with a school program.

A letter written to T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from T. H. Curry, Superintendent, Wylie Consolidated School, Abilene, Texas, dated October 28, 1940. Curry invites the Legion to assist with a school program on November 12, 1940.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Post Commander Parramore Post, Abilene, Texas, from Sam Russell, District Judge, Stephenville, Texas, dated October 27, 1940. Russell acknowledges his receipt of the telegram sent by Carswell and accepts the invitation to address the Armistice Day Program if it is to be held during the day citing a previous engagement in Stamford that night.

A form letter addressed to The Medicinal Permit Holders from Nineteenth Street Pharmacy, Lubbock, Texas, signed by F. E. Carter, Owner, dated October 23, 1940. The letter urges druggists to contribute $100 for the purpose of retaining the present law in Texas relating to dispensing liquor through prescriptions, and to support Mr. Max W. Boyer who is well known for having been responsible in a large measure during his four years in the legislature for the present retention of the medicinal permit law.

A Western Union telegram sent to the Honorable Sam Russell, Congressman Elect, 17th District, Washington, D. C., from T. N. Carswell, Commander Parramore Post, Abilene, Texas, dated October 21, 1940. Carswell issues an invitation to Russell to address the Armistice Day special program honoring National Guard "called to Colors" and the men recently registered for defense training noting his speaking as a splendid opportunity for both him and them.

A form letter addressed to Other Medicinal Permit Holders of Texas, from City Drug, Inc., Perryton, Texas, (J. H. Brashears, President), dated October 19, 1940. Brashears advises of his support for the plan to protect the present law which permits druggists to dispense liquor by prescriptions under the medicinal permit law. He compels druggists to contribute $100 to the fund and recommends Mr. Max Boyer believing that much good will be accomplished through his endeavors and the other connections he has in Austin.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Post Commander, Parramore Post No. 57, The American Legion, Abilene, Texas, from Sidney C. Mason, Lieut. Col., 142nd Infantry, Adjutant General's Department, State of Texas, Austin, dated October 17, 1940. Mason acknowledges the receipt of the application for authority to organize units of the Texas Defense Guard. He suggests that Carswell modify the program to consist of three companies at Abilene and one at Merkel thereby making one complete battalion in that vicinity.

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, Texas, from Tom Connally, United States Senate, dated October 9, 1940. Connally acknowledges his receipt of the letter and enclosure from Carswell in which Carswell advises that his committee invited Chief Justice Hughes to speak at the inauguration of Dr. William Richardson White as President of Hardin-Simmons University. Connally advises that he will urge Hughes to accept the invitation and expresses his appreciation for the invitation from Carswell to attend the Armistice Day services, declines to make any definite engagements due to the pressure of his public duties but that he will advise if later he finds that he can attend.

A letter addressed to Governor W. Lee O'Daniel, Austin, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, Post Commander, American Legion, Parramore Post No. 57, Abilene, Texas, dated October 8, 1940. Carswell files to organize five companies of the Texas Defense Guard in Taylor County. Officers, as listed: Captain - Jesse Warren, Roscoe Blankenship, Stanley King, Thomas E. Brownlee, Thomas N. Carswell; 1st Lieutenant - Louis Agee, Edmund C. Yates, J. C. White, Dave Mauldin, Roy Johnson; 2nd Lieutenant - W. R. (Ruck) Sibley), Clyde Fulwiler, Allen A. McGehee, Joe Williamson, O. P. Beebe. A letter written to Mr. J. D. Sandefer (Breckenridge, Texas) from W. R. White, President, Hardin-Simmons University dated October 2, 1940. White advises Sandefer that he has thought considerably about the question of their affiliation with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. White outlines the conditions of an organic relationship and defends the benefits of an affiliation without the disadvantages of the old correlation.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Mr. Tom B. Roberts, Mr. George S. Anderson and Mr. C. M. Caldwell, Abilene, Texas from J. D. Sandefer, Jr., Breckenridge, Texas dated September 27, 1940. Sandefer makes a request to the above addressed men to serve on a planning committee with Mr. Carswell as Chairman.
