Report issued by the Bureau of Mines over rock quarries in the United States. As stated in the introduction, "the bulk of the report deals with quarrying methods and equipment, and gives special attention to drilling and blasting; a chapter on rock mining and one on prospecting are included" (p. 1). From Introduction: "This report of investigations carried on by the Bureau of Mines gives the methods used in mining and milling and indicates in some detail the conditions that affect the efficiency of those methods; it does not attempt to discuss the geology of the district, except incidentally, as this has been described in numerous reports by several geologists."

From Introduction: "The Bureau of Mines has been conducting investigations with the view of determining the types of containers best adapted to the storage of oil. These investigations have shown that tanks composed wholly of steel give the best results. Practically all such containers in use at present have wooden roofs and this type of construction is here described, although it is the belief of the writer that concrete roofs would be far more satisfactory in every way, and that the difference in cost between a concrete and a wooden roof would, as a rule, in a few year's time, be offset by a saving oil and in cost of repairs and renewals."

From Introduction: "The data reported in this bulletin are largely the result of experiments conducted by the Salt Lake City station of the Bureau of Mines in cooperation with the department of metallurgical research of the University of Utah. The work on the lead is the only one of the phases of the investigations carried on at that station during the years 1914 to 1916."

Bulletin issued by the U.S. Bureau of Mines: "This publication is devoted exclusively to a review and abstracts of decisions based on the laws governing the rights and duties of mine owners, operators, miners, and persons trafficking in all kinds of mining properties. It includes abstracts of current decisions of all the Federal and State courts of last resort on questions relating to the mining industries" (Bulletin 61, p. 9).

The general problem of electric brass furnaces is discussed and various types of furnaces are compared only so far as is necessary for the purpose of this report."

From Scope of Investigation: "The present publication reviews the literature on the subject and gives in detail the effect of various oxidizing, reducing, and neutral atmospheres such as are found in various parts of the fuel bed on the softening temperature of ash when molded in the form of Seger cones. As a result of this study a practical method of determining fusibility has been developed whereby the ash is caused to soften and form slags in which the iron exists in approximately the same state of oxidation as the iron in fuel-bed clinkers."
