Photograph of Carry Nation. Written in the folder in blue ink: "Location unknown. Date: Probably circa 1905. Of many pictures of my grandmother, this is the only one I've ever seen where she was smiling. (signed) Alexander D. McNabb, July 24, 1975. " Photograph shows Nation in a wooden raised platform (wooden chair to right side of it). Nation, who has gray hair (in bun) and eyeglasses, is wearing a white floor-length skirt and white jacket and she is holding a bouquet of flowers on her left arm and an open book in her right hand. A crowd of people are standing around her. A black parasol can be seen in front of the white two-story building in the background. White label at the bottom of matte reads in black: Your Loving home defender, Carry A. Nation. Photograph is enclosed in a gray folder that has a matte for framing picture. [Men and women kneeling around a stone]

Photographic print of nine men and women kneeling around a stone with "D. Rugeley" painted on it in white. Another women is standing partially out of the frame at the left. According to a paper taped to the back of the image, the picture was probably taken at the site where John DeForest Rugeley was killed (Sept. 1862) at Woodbury, TN during the Civil War. Rugeley was in Co. B of Terry's Texas Rangers and was from Matagorda County. Rugeley's sister Minnie married Col. Philip E. Peareson and moved to Richmond in 1867. See paper on back of photo for additional family information. Substrate has been cropped close to image at bottom, right, and top sides. Substrate at left side is missing several large pieces. An 8.5 cm x 5.5 cm triangle is missing from the image at the center top. Upper right corner of image is missing. 4 cm semi-circular area is missing from image near bottom of right edge. Small triangular area is missing from image at bottom left.

George V. Huffmon

Portrait of George V. Huffmon as a young man in a dark suit and vest and a white shirt. There is a small photo of two women wearing hats pinned to his left lapel. The image is over-matted to an oval shape. We are guessing on the date of creation based upon other photos that we have of him that were taken around the same time period. George Van Buren Huffmon was born on Nov. 24, 1886 in Lee County, Virginia. He moved to Texas and later enlisted in the United States Army. He was stated at Camp Columbia near Havana, Cuba from Feb. 1906 until his discharge in September of that year as a 1st Class Private with "Excellent" as the last remark. He became a nurse in the U.S. Medical Corps. George Huffmon died in Jan. 27, 1933 in Pampa, Texas.
