U.S. Access to Japanese Technical Literature: Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Selected Presentations, Volume 1

Abstract: On June 24-25, 1985, NBS and IEEE cosponsored a seminar at NBS to examine the need fox improved access to Japanese technical information and to explore possible app. aches to satisfy those needs. To limit the discussion to practical dimensions, the technical subject matter was restricted to electrical and electronics engineering. The program was designed to provide an opportunity for individuals representing Congress, the practicing engineering community, industry, and the educational community to voice their concerns and their needs. This proceedings volume contains selected presentations made at the seminar plus the visual aids used by each speaker.

A User's Guide for RAPID, Reduction Algorithms for the Presentation of Incremental Fire Data (open access)

A User's Guide for RAPID, Reduction Algorithms for the Presentation of Incremental Fire Data

Abstract: The Voluminous amount of data than can be collected by automatic data acquisition systems during large scale fire tests requires the use of a digital computer for the reduction of data. RAPID is a stand-alone program specifically designed to convert raw instrument voltages collected during such tests into meaningful units. The reduced data can also be used alone or in combinations to obtain quantities that require more than minimal data reduction. The program is written with the ability to accept data from a user defined data acquisition system, with the ability to check the correctness of data included. Through the use of input data provided by the user, the data can be converted into meaningful scientific units. The data can then be presented in tabular or printer plot form, or stored for further processing. This user's guide provides detailed instructions for the use of the program.

Vibration-Rotation Structure in Absorption Bands for the Calibration of Spectrometers From 2 to 16 Microns (open access)

Vibration-Rotation Structure in Absorption Bands for the Calibration of Spectrometers From 2 to 16 Microns

Reports discussing bands of common gases that have been tabulated and remeasured wherever necessary from 2 to 16 microns to obtain an accuracy of about 0.03 cm-1 throughout the region and to provide good calibrating points at frequent intervals. Some 600 rotation-vibration lines are illustrated in 20 spectrograms and wavenumbers are listed in companion tables with considerable intercomparison with worthy data obtained in other laboratories. The absorption bands were remeasured or calibrated by using either a precisely graduated grating circle or standard atomic lines with the fringe system formed by a Fabry-Perot interferometer. Characteristic features of the individual bands are discussed briefly and references to other publications are given. The substances used for calibration include H2O, CO2, CO, HCl, HBr, NH3, C2H2, CH4, N2O, and polystyrene film.
