Report issued by the National Bureau of Standards over experiments conducted on a masonry building constructed inside an environmental chamber at the NBS. Different climactic conditions were simulated and the thermal response of the building was evaluated. This report includes tables, illustrations, and photographs.

Abstract: A thermodynamic property formulation for ethylene, developed as a part of a joint industry-government project, is presented. The formulation includes an equation of state, vapor pressure equation, and equation for the ideal gas heat capacity. The coefficients were determined by a least squares fit of selected experimental data. Comparisons of property values calculated using the equation of state with measured values are given. The equation of state is not valid in the critical region (pc + 0.3 pc for temperatures of Tc + 0.05 Tc). Errors on the order of 20 percent for derived properties and 10 percent for density may be encountered near the critical point. Tables of the thermodynamic properties of ethylene for the liquid and vapor phases for temperatures from the freezing line to 450 K with pressures to 40 MPa are presented. The equation of state and its derivative and integral functions for calculating thermodynamic properties are included. Estimates of the accuracy of calculated properties are given. A guide for use of computer programs for the calculation of thermodynamic properties of ethylene with listings of subprograms and a sample program to illustrate the use and results of the program are included.

Abstract: This report presents a long-range plan for roofing research. The plan was developed in response to a need for roofing research addressing major materials problems and changes in low-sloped roofing materials technology. The intent of the plan is to establish the technical basis for developing standards and minimum levels of performance to assist in the selection of cost-effective and durable roofing materials. Four major areas of needed research are identified: (1) low-sloped roofing systems, (2) roofing membranes including single-ply and built-up, (3) thermal insulation for roofing systems, and (4) condition assessment and repair of roofs. Within each research area, a goal is given as well as a number of objectives to achieve the goal. A recommended approach to accomplish each objective is also given.

From abstract: Standard installation practices were developed to assist in assuring the effectiveness and safety of energy conservation measures installed under the Residential Conservation Service (RCS). They serve as mandatory standards under RCS but are recommended guides for all installations of the covered materials and products. The criteria are being used by DoE to develop training manuals for installers, inspectors, and energy auditors.

From abstract: The material included in this report is intended for a short course on electromagnetic compatibility/interference (EMC/EMI) metrology to be offered jointly by the staff of the Fields Characterization Group (723.03) and the Interference Characterization Group (723.04) of the Electromagnetic Fields Division (723). The purpose of this short course is to present a review of some of the radiated EMC/EMI measurement methods, to which the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) at Boulder, Colorado, has made significant contributions during the past two decades.

From Abstract: "A calibration is applied to the intensity measurements of the 1400 lines below 2450 A in the NBS Tables of Spectral-Line Intensities. Tables of the new values are presented with the lines arranged by elements and by wavelengths."

Report documenting standard x-ray diffraction powder patterns for various compounds, intended to replace previous data or provide information for new substances. It describes the methods and, for each substance, outlines any previous data as well as information about the sample used and structural data, with a table of diffraction patterns.

As stated in the introduction, "The first objective was to assist the ATC in the preparation of its report. The second objective of the study was to augment the text of the published Provisions by providing a formal, consistent documentation of the text. The third objective was to provide alternate arrangements of the Provisions that would make them more readily usable by several categories of users" (p. 1). This report includes illustrations.

Report continuing W. K. Meggers' previous analysis in LS-coupling. This coupling is not rigorous in Hf I, and many intervals are irregular. Consequently, the levels are given also in numerical order with the even and odd levels presented in separate tables. The long line lists are given in two Appendices: Appendix A contains the observed Zeeman data for the individual lines, 531 in all; Appendix B consists of the complete line list of observed and classified lines. By far the greater part of the analysis is that of Meggers.
