She received their letter and hopes that Mr. Moore will get well from his rheumatics. They have had a lot of cold weather and the peach trees have not bloomed yet. People are planting irish potatoes. Abe and Bettie are building a new kitchen and Tobe's baby has teeth already. She says there has been a lot of sickness and death the past winter and spring. Mrs. Allison and Mr. Harris died. Laura Dorris and her baby are sick. She asks if Linnet goes egg hunting like Birdie. She is at Dinkie's house. She received another letter from them. She mentions the telephone wires that went up. Mrs. Summers has had hemorrhages. Sam Thornhill had some the other night, he was robbed. She asks that they write soon.

He was surprised, but glad to hear from Charles. He is sorry that Charles' brother John was suffering fro rheumatism. He believes everyone is doing well, and he mentions that they are suffering from dry weather. He hopes for good crops this year. There is a liquor prohibiting law and the Marshall takes drunk men to jail every few nights. He tells Charles that his son Will is still sheriff and the ages of aunts and uncles. He doesn't know if Willis is going to leave or not. He asks that they write soon. In the P.S. he asks some questions. He aks if Charles and Henry are the only ones to keep the Moore name. He mentions that the Boyd name rests on the second generation with one boy.

Letter from Matilda Dodd to Mary and Charles B. Moore in which she starts out discussing her and her family's health. She also discusses the weather, crops, and the deaths of Jo Wallace and Mrs. Wilson. She says that Dinkie needs to make soap and was making butter. William Dodd and Birdie McGee added a notes at the end of the letter. Birdie shared that she weighed 41 pounds.

Letter from Matilda Dodd and Dinkie McGee discusses weather and cold snap that probably killed all the peach blossoms, but apples and garden looks ok. She recommends Mary get her teeth pulled that are bothering her. Abe is in town and Bettie is lonesome. Some geologists had come and visited Abe's gas well. Willie is working as chain carrier for a surveyor. Birdie, Mary and Bessie have learned to knit and Birdie is piecing a quilt. The women made soap and it only took 3 days. Dinkie's chickens are doing well and they sold all their turkeys at Christmas

Matilda was sad to hear they were unwell and hopes they are better. She also had a cold and so did Abe, Bessie and Mattie. She gives Dinkie's recipe for cough medicine. She has had dry weather until yesterday and it hasn't stopped raining since. She talks about Dinkie's garden. She is worried about Tobe and Linnet. Dinkie writes that colds are going around. Mattie stayed with Birdie. Dinkie has a hundred chicks and two hens; she milks four cows and has so much milk. She has no hogs to give the milk to because they are all dieing of cholera. She also has to deal with mad dogs.

Letter from Dinkie McGee to Mary and Charles B. Moore in which she gives news of her family's health and talks about wanting to visits from family that live far away. Aurthur is going to school in town and want to be a preacher. William Dodd wrote about crops, a storm that caused damage and killed three people. Dinkie added a note to day that Jimmie Day was dead.

Letter from Dinkie McGee to Mary and Charles B. Moore in which she updates them on the health of family members, the crops, and the weather. She thanks them for the bluing. She also says that her family is selling sheep and lambs. She has been making money selling eggs and butter. She asks if Mary has had her "teeth out." Included with this letter is a swatch of blue fabric with a white line design of squares.

This document includes journal entries from April 4 to April 11 in an unidentified year. In the entries, Moore writes about a camping trip that is cut short by a "norther." The cold and snowy weather damaged the wheat and corn crops. He details his trip into McKinney in the snow and the snowball a group of boys were rolling in town. The next morning, on the 12, the winter weather had cleared up and by noon the snow was nearly all gone.

This is a draft from the personal papers of the Charles B. Moore Collection. It is written by Moore on April 19, 1891.
