Metabolism of Methylglyoxal by Scenedesmus Quadricauda (open access)

Metabolism of Methylglyoxal by Scenedesmus Quadricauda

This report describes the effects of methylglyoxal on several green and blue-green algae, its correlation with photosynthesis, and a possible explanation of its metabolic role in the algae.

Life Cycle and Ecology of the Hydropsychidae (Trichoptera) of the Brazos River, Texas (open access)

Life Cycle and Ecology of the Hydropsychidae (Trichoptera) of the Brazos River, Texas

Populations of all stages of three species of Hydropsychidae, Hydropsyche simulans, Cheumatopsyche campyla, and Cheumatopsyche lasia were sampled fro September, 1971, to August, 1972, on the Brazos River in Palo Pinto County, Texas. Supplemental observations relating to emergence, mating and oviposition, and larvae food habits were continued to July, 1973. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the life cycles and ecology of this Hydropsychidae complex.

The Feasibility of Casting Aluminum Relief Sculptures with Controlled, Diversified Textual Properties (open access)

The Feasibility of Casting Aluminum Relief Sculptures with Controlled, Diversified Textual Properties

The problem of this study is twofold: casting aluminum relief sculptures which have controlled diversified textural properties, and the development of a technical teaching process in the form of a pictorial documentation.

Psalm (open access)

Psalm

Psalm is a composition for symphony orchestra. The duration is from twelve to fifteen minutes. The form is sonata-allegro. Tonal organization is twelve-tone, although melodic development is by traditional methods rather than by row technique. Tempo modulation has replaced the traditional tonal modulation of sonata form. The first theme provides the harmonic basis for the entire work after the introduction. The second theme is used extensively in the development. The development is a fugue in which the techniques of retrograde, inversion, diminution, and augmentation are used. As a study in textures, Psalm displays variety rather than development.

Stylistic, Technical, and Compositional Trends in Early Twentieth-Century Music for Unaccompanied Clarinet; Together with Three Recitals of Music by Bartok, Bozza, Brahms, Debussy, Martinu, Mozart, Raphael, Schumann, and Wanhal (open access)

Stylistic, Technical, and Compositional Trends in Early Twentieth-Century Music for Unaccompanied Clarinet; Together with Three Recitals of Music by Bartok, Bozza, Brahms, Debussy, Martinu, Mozart, Raphael, Schumann, and Wanhal

The dissertation consists of four recitals: one chamber music recital, two solo recitals, and one lecture recital. The repertoire of these programs was chosen with the intention of demonstrating the capability of the performer to deal with problems arising in works of varying types and of different historical periods.

Interaction of Various Components of Staphylococcus Aureus (open access)

Interaction of Various Components of Staphylococcus Aureus

Previous reports have shown that killed cells of S. aureus potentiate the lethal effect of crude staphylococcal alpha toxin for mice. In the present study this synergistic effect has been demonstrated with highly purified preparations of alpha toxin. Time studies indicate that the active principle does not appear to be released until approximately two hours following administration of the whole cells.

A Study of Transient Molecular Ions Using a Resonant Microwave Cavity as a Probe (open access)

A Study of Transient Molecular Ions Using a Resonant Microwave Cavity as a Probe

The microwave-resonant-cavity technique was employes as a probe to determine the presence of molecular ions of helium in a d.c.-discharge, helium-plasma filament placed coaxially in a TM010 mode cavity. The cavity-resonance profile was displayed on an oscilloscope, and the nature of the perturbation of this resonance was used to determine the nature of the ions present in the plasma stream.
