Upchurch advises the Chairman of the classification of a registrant by the Board as a 1-A but after having reviewed the file recommends reclassification as a III-D.

A letter written to a Parolee/Inmate, Stillwater, Minnesota, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, dated December 22, 1953. Carswell advises Subject 17671 [108,345] that the decision in a letter from the Board of Pardons and Paroles was not what he asked in his behalf. He advises Subject to accept the decision and to demonstrate the affirmations repeatedly made by him in his letters, that he would make an about-face and be a man. Carswell advises that he will be measured by what he does and not by what he wrote.

Gilliland explains that he read the article written by Edward Meeman in which was answered the question regarding Americanism, and though Carswell did not address his inquiry "What is Americanism?" to him, he could not resist this opportunity to reply. A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from Lloyd Arnovich, Social Case Worker, Big Spring State Hospital, Big Spring, Texas, dated December 22, 1961. Arnovich advises Carswell of their efforts to recruit a local doctor to perform an eye exam for Byrdie Carswell, of the enclosed receipts credited to Byrdie's account and that she continues to do well. A letter addressed to Detachment Commander, Medical Officer, S-2, S-4 from John H. Alvis, First Lieutenant, Infantry, S-3, Tenth Battalion, T.D.G., by authority of Maj. T. N. Carswell, Commander, dated December 22, 1941. Alvis confirms that the Training Schedule for the Headquarters Detachment is the same basic training as for the Rifle Company except that it includes an additional specialized training under the supervision of the medical officers, S-2 and S-4.
