SS African Pilot
Photograph of the Mercy Ship, the veteran freighter SS African Pilot. The ship was lent for movement of supplies for Cuba to the Red Cross by the Committee of American Steamship Lines. The ship is at its moorings awaiting loading. When it completes it mercy mission, the vessel is scheduled for retirement.

Old Town Mine Explosion
Photograph of the scene after the McAlester, OK Old Town coal mine explosion of spectators gathering for word from the rescue parties. In the cars at the extreme right on the rail are casualties. The explosion killed sixty-one.
