The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with George Reed. Reed was born in Alice, Texas on 28 August 1922. Prior to joining the US Army Air Corps in 1942, he participated in the Civilian Pilot Training program. Upon entering the Air Corps he was sent to California and after testing, he was selected for pilot training. He tells of the various phases of flight training and the types of aircraft he flew. After graduating and receiving his wings, he was sent to Albuquerque, New Mexico for multi-engine transitional training in the B-24 bomber. Upon completing the training he was ordered to Fresno, California to pick up a crew. The newly formed crew flew numerous training missions until June, 1944, when they picked up a new B-24 and flew to Foggia, Italy. Upon their arrival the crew was assigned to the 456th Bomb Group, 745th Bomb Squadron. He describes in detail the intricacies involved in flying a mission, from the wake-up call through the debriefing following the mission. The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Allen Faust. Faust graduated from the Naval Academy in 1936. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor, along with his wife who worked at the Office of Naval Intelligence. He then completed Submarine School at the Naval Submarine Base in New London. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Faust took command of USS R-7 (SS-84), an R-class coastal and harbor defense submarine, conducting anti-submarine patrols in the shipping lanes between Bermuda and the northeastern coat. In 1945, Faust deployed to the Pacific and took command of USS Trepang (SS-412). He traveled to Guam, the coast of Japan, Kwajalein and Pearl Harbor. After the war ended, he continued his service until the early 1960s.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Glenn Mitchell. Mitchell, a native Choctaw Indian, joined the Marine Corps in 1943. After completing training in artillery as well as radio and telephone communication, he joined the 5th Marine Division, 13th Artillery Regiment. His primary function was to call in coordinates for a 105mm gun. At Iwo Jima, Mitchell landed under enemy fire which included attack. He developed battle fatigue and was relieved from the front lines, working instead at the fire direction switchboard. He then transferred to an MP company in the 2nd Marine Division, serving occupation duty at Kyushu. There he coaxed villagers out of the ruins of Nagasaki as part of a westernization program. After his discharge in 1946, Mitchell initially struggled with PTSD before finding his way as a fisherman in Alaska.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Von Dixon. Dixon was born 30 April 1924 in La Junta, Colorado. Upon enlisting in the US Army Air Forces, he went to Randolph Field, Texas for preflight training. He tells of various phases of training at a series of airfields and the type of planes used in the training. Upon graduating and being commissioned in 1943, he was sent to Thomasville, Georgia for training in the P-39 (fighter). After three months training he was sent to New Guinea where he joined the 35th Fighter Group. After flying the P-39 on ground support missions for a period of time, the group received new P-47s. Dixon recalls an accident that occurred during take-off that resulted in him being seriously burned. He tells of the treatment he received and the various hospitals in which he was a patient for five months of recovery. Following his recovery he was sent to Ephrata Army Air Field, Washington as a pilot instructor, flying the P-63 (fighter) for five months. The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Thomas Hendrix. Hendrix joined the Naval Reserve in 1940 and was commissioned in 1941. He started as an intelligence officer for the 11th Naval District at San Diego until he requested sea duty. Hendrix served on the USS Harris (APA-2) and was at sea during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He describes the damage he saw when his ship returned to Pearl Harbor. Hendrix was then assigned to CINCPAC as a coding officer. He discusses the arrival of Nimitz and his words to the staff. Hendrix describes the demeanor of Nimitz and how he treated the staff. He also talks about how Admiral Spruance interacted with the staff. Hendrix covers the nature of his work as a coder. He requested sea duty again and was transferred to the USS Mitchell (DE-43). Hendrix served as Navigation Officer as his ship escorted oil tankers as part of the At-Sea Logistics Support Group for the remainder of the year. He discusses how the mixed-race crew got along well. The Mitchell was decommissioned in December 1945 and Hendrix left the service in March 1946.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Floyd E. Beeghly. Beeghly joined the Navy in April 1943. He describes his basic training at Farragut, Idaho. Beeghly was sent to the USS Independence (CVL-22) and joined the C and R division. He describes flight operations, his damage control station, and what it was like when his ship was hit by a torpedo. Beeghly left the Navy in February 1946.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with William Butler. Butler joined the Army in June 1943 and, after basic training, went into the Specialized Training Program at Texas A&M until the program was scrapped and he was assigned to 103rd Infantry Division. He went to France in October, 1944. He was wounded in action on 10 December and evacuated to a hospital. Butler eventually returned to the US and went to hospitals there. Upon recovery, he reported for duty with the War Manpower Commission at Camp Carson. He was discharged in August, 1945.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with William Most. Most joined the Marine Corps in late 1944 and went to basic training at Parris Island. After further training in North Carolina, he shipped overseas to Guam where he joined replacements fro the 22nd Marine Regiment, 6th Marine Division. He joined them in time for their move from Okinawa to China after he war ended. While in CHina on occupation duty, Most was made a clerk typist. he remained in that postition until he was discharged in November 1946.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Floyd John Schexnayder. Schexnayder was born in 1928. At the age of 16, he changed his birth certificate in order to join the Navy in mid-1944. He completed boot camp in San Diego, California. Beginning around February of 1945, he served as Seaman Second-Class in the gunnery department aboard the USS Terror (CM-5), loading 40mm quadruple antiaircraft guns. They transferred battle casualties to an Army hospital at Saipan, then traveled to Ulithi, where they serviced and supplied minecraft staging for the assault on Okinawa. In March, they arrived at Kerama Retto, serving as a flagship and tender for minecraft. Schexnayder worked hard protecting Terror and other U.S. ships from Japanese kamikaze planes. He describes their ship getting hit by one of these planes, and his participation in the events that unfolded. After the war ended, he was transferred to the USS Steady (AM-118), where they swept mines in the East China Sea. They returned to the U.S. in early 1946, and he received his discharge in August.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Archie Mayes. Mayes joined the Missouri National Guard in 1938 and, when the Guard was federalized, travelled with his unit, the 35th Infantry Division, to Arkansas for training. In 1942, Mayes went to Officer Candidate School and earned a commission. Afterwards, he was assigned to the 160th Combat Engineer Battalion as the battalion S-3 (operations officer). He travelled overseas to England in July and landed in France in August, 1944. His unit built bridges. General Patton complimented Mayes on his outfit's construction once. After the war, Mayes transferred to the Air Force and served as base engineer in the Aleutians and other posts in the US. During the Vietnam War, Mayes established engineering units for the Air Force to build air bases.
