Erosion Control
Photograph of erosion control on cultivated field. This field was formerly farmed with straight down hill rows and the soil suffered badly from silting. Terraces and grassed channels have been constructed and contour cultivation is now practiced. A volunteer ceop of wheat serves as winter cover and supplemental pasture for livestock.

Photograph of A portion of a 200 acre field level bordered in the Washita River bottom. This is the first water after leveling and corrugating. Winter oats were seeded and with Nitrogen fertilizer applied, yielded 80 bushels per acre in 1953. Seeded to alfalfa in 1953 and with 400 lbs of 0-20-0 per acre produced 7 tons per acre. Water supply comes from the Washita River from a nuit supplying 4,000 gallons per minute.

Photograph of graded Border Irrigation System. (4300 Acre). Water is pumped from Verdigris River at N. E. corner of 400 acre field. Water is shown running from feeder ditch through border to field tabs. Field to left of electric fence is in rye and vetch and has had one irrigation. An additional 300 acres will be leveled smoothed ditched and bordered and put into irrigation in 1956. The system designed provides drainage as well as irrigation.
