Gettering Hydrogen at Ultra-Low Pressures by Evaporated Metal Coatings (open access)

Gettering Hydrogen at Ultra-Low Pressures by Evaporated Metal Coatings

"Preliminary results are given for pumping neutral hydrogen gas in 1-second pulses by the gettering action of an evaporated coating of molybdenum. One second gas in-puts are observed at equivalent pumping speeds > 10-4 liters/second at 1 x 10-(-8) mm Hg in a 70-liter volume system. Base pressures <1 x 10-(-10) mm Hg are achieved by gettering with the static evaporated coating and pumping with a 4 in. oil diffusion pump simultaneously. Criteria for choice of gettering metal and a brief outline of pumping requirements for controlled fusion devices called Pyrotrons are included."

Microwave Interferometer Measurements for the Determination of Plasma Density Profiles in Controlled Fusion Experiments (open access)

Microwave Interferometer Measurements for the Determination of Plasma Density Profiles in Controlled Fusion Experiments

The following report demonstrates experimental verification of a method described in a previous paper--that involves measuring the dispersive microwave propagation coefficients simultaneously at several frequencies and comparing measured values with the values calculated for various distribution functions--and describes the procedure used to determine the distribution function in a sample laboratory plasma experiment.

Radiation Survey, Columbia University, Van De Graaff

Abstract: During March 1958, representatives of the health and Safety Laboratory, New York Operations Office, visited Columbia University to make stray radiation measurement at the Van de Graff accelerator. A radiation survey was performed at the Van de Graaff electrostatic generator at Columbia University. The survey results do not indicate a particular need for additional shielding at this time. It is recommended that the analyzer area of the beam room should not be occupied during beam operations and the present interlock system should be modified by the installation of a photocell interlock as shown on the included plan.

NPR; Tube to Nozzle Connection and Zircaloy-2 to Stainless Steel Tube Connection

Zircaloy-2 tubing was successfully joined to austenetic and ferritic stainless steel tubing by fusion bonding. Tungsten inert gas welding was employed to join a flange to a pressure tube. This work was performed to help determine the design of pressure tubes of a pressure tube reactor.

Forces Between Nucleons And Antinucleons

Existing experimental information about the nucleon-anitnucleon interaction is reviewed, and a description is given of a theoretical model, based on the Yukawa theory, which seems able to explain the experimental results.
