This picture is looking westward from Byers Pl., toward the downtown shopping district with the skyscapers in the background. The pillars will support a 6-lane skyway across the city from I. H. 35 to a point west of Western. Construction is under way on the first segments, and a work order was issued Friday by Frank D. Lyons, state highway director, on the longest section - a 1,466-foot span between Wlker and Shartel. The highway commission was opening bids Friday afternoon on the fifth section in an attempt to get the whole skyway under construction by early spring."
