He thought it looked like an atomic bomb mushroom cloud. So he took the picture. The weatherman says the photographer is right. It's a cumulus variety known to the forecasting trade as a "weather factory." It's built just as the atomic mushroom by tremendous heat generated in the center. This causes a big upheval and the cloud build fast. Sometimes they will shoot up as much as 30,000 to 40,000 feet in a few minutes. When the mushroom sticks through into the freeze ceiling, that's when the rains come. it's seldom a heavy rain. More often the rain falls in light showers confined to a relatively small area."

Caption: "Here are a few of the reasons why a subcommittee of the house committee on the labor and education spent two days in Oklahoma City and will continue a trip across country to look into overcrowded conditions of schools near federal installations. John S. Woods, principal of Midwest City's East school, herded his 200 first-graders together for this picture. Six classes of the first grade students occupy all but two rooms of that school's permanent building. Kindergarten pupils, a total of 120, take the other two rooms. The other 320 second and third grade pupils attend classes in seven makeshift, temporary buildings."

Caption: "Here's how a big city-state highway project emerges from the blueprint stage, and begins to take shape as the new bypass route on U.S. 66. In the foreground is a culvert form, and beyond that the big tread marks left by the tires of heavy earth-moving equipment trace the general path of the new road from the southeast corner of NE 63 and Eastern over the hill in the extreme background, around a bend in Deep Fork creek, and on to connect with Lincoln at about NE 50. This is the first section of the by-pass route, and construction work is being done by W. E. Logan & Sons, Muskogee contractors, whose low bid of $508,806 won the job."

Caption: "Kingfisher was convalescing Wednesday from a severe attack of high enthusiasms growing out of an ethusiastic celebration of its sixtieth birthday Tuesday. Numerous organization joined in the observance, the high spot of which was a parade featuring four bands and other units stressing the Thanksgiving motif. A general view of the parade is shown above the Kingfisher highschool band included. The band contest at Norman last Saturday when the Kingfisher entry won first place in the class A divison. kingfisher's "golden harvest" anniversry was touched off Monday night with a square dance in Memorial auditorium. The above photograph was flown to Oklahoma City by Irvin Bollenbach, manager of the Kingfisher airport."

Caption: "Green Lumber, twisted under the strain of 100 yards of concrete, cause this structural fault at the Southside sewage disposal plants main digester tanks. Workmen scampered for safety as the forms buckled, dropping tons of concrete into the huge tank. Damage is estimated between $5,000 and $7,000. Workmen of the Preload Central Corp., sub-contractor on the tanks, Tuesday were busy chipping away hardened concrete to replace the forms and try once more to put the six-inch concrete roof on the tank. This view of the huge 209,000 cubic foot tank was tanken from a crane supported box high over the 50-foot high tank."
