Ben Sturdivant, right, pastor of the church, hands an $820 check for the balance of Dr. C. Q. Smith, Oklahoma City University president. Oklahoma Methodists need only $100,000 to reach the $500,000 they pledge in 1947 for the memorial to Methodist war dead. The massive building, in the background, is rapidly nearing completion. The exterior is expected to be finished by Christmas. But, the interior and furnishings won't be in place until sometime next year. When completed, the building will represent an investment of well over $1 million."

Photograph used for a newspaper owned by the Oklahoma Publishing Company. Caption: "If Oklahoma City achieves its goal of a 6000,0000 population by 1960, the county planning commission will have played more than an incidental role in that development. Planning and zoning functions of the board will become increasingly important AS CITY BOUNDARIES, CONSTANTLY PUSHING OUTWARD, engulfing new suburban areas...The first step was a land use survey within a 5-mile radius of city boundaries. that is the limit of the area under the county board's jurisdiction......W. P. Fowler, director of the county planning commission, points out that careful planning procedures during the next four years will be an important factor in the city's expansion program......Fowler said the site chosen by Midwest city officials is some 1,300 feet east of the Central Oklahoma Milk Producers association plant. A protest was made by B. G. Graham, manager of the association. A new location for the disposal plant is now being studied, Fowler said."
