Photograph of a Alabama land deed for 220 acres belonging to Garrison Deens. it is signed by President James Buchanan on November 1, 1858. Mr. Deens sold this land to James O. Sellers in 1859 or 1860. Mr. Sellers was Ethel Bryant's grandfather. This photo was included in a research paper by Mike Shurley for an American History class at Marfa High School in 1968.

Map of the lines marched to military bases by United States troops in 1858. Lines included marches up the Mississippi River to St. Louis; travels between numerous forts, camps, and barracks in Texas; similar trails among the plains and Rocky Mountain military posts; a line from New York to Havana to Panama then to San Francisco; and marches in New Mexico and Arizona, including a march from Fort Yuma to Tuscon and Fort Buchanan along the Mexico-United States border.
