She also talks at length about family matters, mentioning a variety of relatives, including Littleton Upshur, Abel Upshur, Caleb Brown Upshur, Ann Upshur Eyre, Arthur Upshur, Retta Teackle, Leah Curtis Upshur, and Eleanor "Nelly" Jackson Dennis.

She asks Ann to write back to her, and she mentions she grows tired at managing her own personal affairs alone, especially with her husband out of town. She also discusses attending the wedding of Miss Anne Denwood and Mr. Barns with Retta and mentions their cousin John.

Announcement from José Ramón Díaz de Bustamente saying that he has received permission from the governor of the province to issue passports into the province of Texas. The document is signed by local officials in towns and villas such as Refugio, Reynosa, Camargo, Mier, and Revilla, all listed on the left side of the first page.

Message from Manuel de Iturbe to Spanish officials saying he is sending decrees from the archbishop of Mexico City and the viceroy of New Spain concerning the capture of insurrectionists; the men mentioned are Miguel Hidalgo, Ignacio Allende, and Juan Aldama. This document is signed by local Spanish officials acknowledging their having received the notice.

Request from María Andrea Sánchez de la Barrera to the mayor of Laredo for the arrest of two men who have severely injured her husband. In response to the request, de Bustamente writes an eyewitness account of the alleged incident.

Two documents from José Ramón Díaz de Bustamente calling the province to arms in case the insurrection were to spread into Nuevo Santander; de Bustamente says Indians are to have a bow and 50 arrows apiece. He also calls on parish priests to animate the Indians to the Spanish cause instead of the insurrection.

Message from Governor Manuel de Iturbe to Spanish justicias warning them to be on guard against the infiltration of the insurrection into Nuevo Santander, which is still loyal to Spain. The message is signed, dated, and acknowledged by Spanish officials in the various towns and villas of the province.
