Hermsinger says "Dear Friends, I received your card today, sure glad to hear from you, and that you are all well, I am O.K. had a cold, but it is a little better now. Yes, it is getting colder here now. But you can send a little rain this way if you get too much. Ha ha. I hear it is raining a lot there, but I guess it was needed. It will make it late for corn husking. Well, it is bedtime, hope to hear from you soon. Always a friend. Love Nevin."

A handwritten note addressed to Miss Helen H. Aten in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania says, "Dear Helen and all. This is a typical scene of this country and represents it quite well. The fireplace is doing quite well and we just had a little food with some toasted bread over the fire place. Snowing a bit out now. Bro Woodward, Woodrow W. Aten."

Letter and envelope from son Victor Lauderdale to his father J.R. Lauderdale, November 14, 1918. The letter addresses the armistice ending the war and the ensuing celebrations taking place among the civilians and soldiers. Lauderdale relays information on the attitudes of the French, his intentions to explore Europe before coming home and details about his coworkers and job as a bookkeeper.
