The back of the photograph proclaims, "Range cover evaluation on plot 186, if sand dropseed on Rolling Red Plains deep heavy upland in poor condition, was 49% effective in controlling soil splash. The ruler inserted beneath the cover shows that 42% of the ground surface is shielded by forage and litter.”

The back of the photograph proclaims, "Range cover evaluation plot 184 of buffalograss was 91% effective in reducing soil splash on heavy deep uplands of the Rolling Red Plains. In held 33% of 1.93 inches of water applied in 20 minutes. The plot had 1,408 pounds of cover per acre, providing 77% soils coverage."

Erosion Control
Photograph of erosion control on cultivated field. This field was formerly farmed with straight down hill rows and the soil suffered badly from silting. Terraces and grassed channels have been constructed and contour cultivation is now practiced. A volunteer ceop of wheat serves as winter cover and supplemental pasture for livestock.
