Change of scope relocation of Purex cooling water swamp project CA-683 (open access)

Change of scope relocation of Purex cooling water swamp project CA-683

It has been proposed that facilities be provided which can be used to divert the Purex cooling water from the facilities already proposed on this project to a depression within the 540 ft. elevation contour at approximate plant coordinates 34,300 N, 40200 W. These facilities are in addition to the change of scope referred to in reference (1). The purpose of these new facilities is to forma hydrologic dam as part of the ground water table which would aid in the confining of contamination and/or restricting the movement of contamination in the south easterly direction.

Nickel ferricyanide scavenging flowsheet for neutralized concentrated raw (open access)

Nickel ferricyanide scavenging flowsheet for neutralized concentrated raw

From the startup of the TBP Plant until late in September, 1954, when in-line scavenging operations were begun, the wastes from the TBP Plant had been stored after neutralization and concentration in underground storage tanks. Some of this TBP waste has been given a secondary concentration in the waste concentration facilities (first cycle waste evaporators) at the tank farms. Studies by the chemistry Unit have indicated that a further reduction in the volume of waste permanently stored is possible by scavenging these wastes. In this document, a chemical flowsheet is presented for use as a design basis of facilities which will permit scavenging of these stored wastes.

Preliminary hazards review operational charge-discharge for Hanford reactors (open access)

Preliminary hazards review operational charge-discharge for Hanford reactors

The use of the porposed full reactor operational charge-discharge facilities will to some degree change the method of reactor operation from a ``batch`` to a ``continuous`` process. This change in the operational process will require modifications to coolant flow supply and monitoring equipment. Since a continuous and adequate coolant supply is essential to prevention of the release of fission products from the irradiated fuel elements this modification merits a hazards analysis.
