Collective Terrace Outlet Protected With King Ranch Bluestem

The back of the photograph proclaims, "This is a collective terrace outlet protected with King Ranch Bluestem. The grass was planted in April 1950 at the rate of 5 lbs. per acre. This strip is 45 feet wide at top and 150 feet wide at bottom. When grass is well established 30 acre field at left of this strip will empty on strip. M. B. Coffey Work Unit Conservationist appears in the photo."

Photograph of Ed Jenkins, Soil Conservation District [SCD] Co-operator [left] and J. L. Coppodge [right] inspect this 20 acre planting of sericea lespedeza to determine the stage for seed harvesting. The sericea was planted in 3 foot rows in April, 1948 for pasture. Mr. Jenkins states that the sericea has afforded excellent pasture and that his cattle have eaten it readily. TX-47-274.

Water Conservation; Water Erosion; Flooding and Prevention

Photograph of a new Bermuda grass waterway which was sodded using Bermuda roots on February 25, 1953, and planted to corn on March 25, 1953. Cultivation of corn stimulated the growth and spread of the grass which was almost a solid cover when the photo was taken. A fair yield of corn was made. S. E. Jones, Soil Conservation Service [SCS] technician, holds one of the Bermuda grass runners which is around 18 inches long. Class III, Soil Unit 2 BL. See TX-48-593-A. TX-48-593-B
