A letter written to Governor Allan Shivers, Austin, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board dated September 21, 1950. Carswell advises of a bill for reimbursement explaining that it was state business which created the expense. He then explains the importance for parolees to be employed in order to be successfully rehabilitated but that, in this case, a representative of a minor state regulatory body has threatened both employer and employee.

Carswell advises that he heard "over the grapevine" of the probability that Daniel will be a candidate for Governor. He expresses his regrets at losing him as a Senator noting the nation's loss will be Texas' gain and offers his support in the campaign.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Wright Morrow, Houston, Texas, dated September 6, 1956. Morrow acknowledges his receipt of the copy of Carswell's letter of September 1st that he wrote to Congressman Martin Dies describing it as a fine letter and expressing his appreciation for Carswell's interest. He then expounds upon the political situation of Senator Daniel and the unknown time of the special election which is causing the delay of his own announcement of intentions. He requests advice on the situation from Carswell and from others that are interested from his part of the state.

A form letter from Allan Shivers, Austin, Texas, dated September 28, 1956. Shivers announces that he will support President Eisenhower, again, and do all he can toward his re-election advising that he enclosed a copy of his statement that was issued. He discourses on the privilege of voting and the reasons for his vote for Eisenhower over Stevenson. Enclosure includes a statement by the Governor, dated September 18, 1956. Announcement and explanation regarding his vote and support for President Eisenhower for re-election: "A brainwashing campaign is being waged against Texas voters, to convince them that the party is the most important issue -- not the candidate. This campaign is being conducted by persons who hold positions of party power and who want to strengthen and perpetuate themselves in those positions. Political parties are important, but they are a means to an end -- not the end itself."

A letter written to "Norwood" [Mr. T. N. Carswell], Abilene, Texas from Clarence O. Little, Vice President, The Atlantic National Bank of Jacksonville, Jacksonville 1, Florida, dated September 5, 1950. Little expresses his disappointment that he missed him when Carswell was in Jacksonville.

A postcard addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from Mrs. J. O. Curry, Snyder, Tx., postmarked Snyder, Texas, September 15, 1952. The reverse side includes correspondence to Mr. Carswell from Mrs. J. O. Curry. Curry advises Carswell that Jay is still on the same well but is about to finish and that they do not know if they will drill another.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from E. M. Collier, Administrator, Hendrick Memorial Hospital dated September 15, 1959. The letter includes a notification by Collier of a meeting of the Board of Trustees which has been called by Mr. Anderson. Dinner will be served.

A letter written to a parolee/inmate in Weldon, Texas from T. N. Carswell, Chairman of the Taylor County Parole Board, dated September 6, 1954. Carswell advises Subject 108,345 that there is no change of date for reviewing his request. He explains that when he broke his parole he had to start over from when he was released on parole, that the Board requires a minimum time to be served by those who violate Parole before they will again consider them for release. He advises Subject to grit his teeth and take his situation in stride with good grace.

Cameron, Chairman, Palo Pinto County Parole Board, Mineral Wells, Texas, from Jack Ross, Administrator, Interstate Parole Compact (by Sarah Landes, Supervisor, Parole Division), Board of Pardons and Paroles, Texas, dated September 22, 1955. Landes requests an opinion from Cameron on the petition for the transfer of Subject 130,969.

A letter addressed to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Voluntary Parole Board, dated September 26, 1958. Carswell gives to the Board his recommendation for Subject to file an application for a full pardon and restoration.

A letter written to Mr. E. A. Burkhart, Executive Secretary, Adult Authority, Sacramento, California, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County (Texas) Parole Board, dated September 16, 1952. Carswell inquires as to the status of the clemency application for Subject AA 57-1851.

A letter addressed to the Hon. Walter A. Gordon, Administrator, Interstate Parole Compact, Sacramento 14, California, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County (Texas), Parole Board, dated September 22, 1952. Carswell advises Gordon that a review of monthly reports shows an excellent record for Subject A-9803.

A letter addressed to Howard Carney, Secretary of State, Austin, Texas (Attn: Betty Christian, Chief, Parole Division) from Walter A. Gordon, Administrator, Interstate Parole Compact, Sacramento 14, California (by Joseph R. O'Brien, Supervising Parole Officer), dated September 1, 1953. O'Brien replies to a letter from Christian by advising of California requirements for a subject serving a mandatory life sentence. Subject No. 17095 must apply for Executive Clemency from the Governor by writing to and supplying required information to Mr. Joseph Babich who will supply the forms to make application. A second letter is duplicate copy.

A letter written to Mrs. Breeding from T. N. Carswell, Chairman dated September 22, 1953. Carswell advises Mrs. Breeding as to the reason the checks forged by Subject 108,345 requires immediate attention.

A letter written to Mr. Jack Ross, Parole and Probation Compact Administrator, Austin, Texas from G. R. Klopfenstein, Chief (by R. N. McMichael, Placement Supervisor), Bureau of Probation and Parole, Columbus 15, Ohio, dated September 3, 1954. McMichael refers to the request of a pre-parole investigation advising that a health report of Subject 95040 OP has been attached. Postscript by McMichael advises that a detainer filed against this subject by the Sheriff of Grayson County, Texas has been withdrawn making subject eligible for regular parole release on November 3, 1954. Attached is a letter written to Mr. R. N. McMichael, Placement Supervisor, Ohio Penitentiary from Richard H. Brooks, M. D., Medical Director, James Hospital dated August 26, 1954. Brooks advises McMichael that the medical records of Inmate No. 95040 have been reviewed and has retained the "No Occupational Restrictions" classification given shortly after arrival at the penitentiary.

Carswell requests that Allen Carswell destroy this letter after reading whether or not he sees fit to use the suggestion in whole or in part. T. N. expresses his enjoyment of their last visit confiding that he felt they were more like brothers than ever before. He offers options for Allen regarding the land handed down to Allen from their mother.

Carswell commends James for his stand on the Texarkana Hospital proposal advising of his own opposition to it as a cooperating Baptist. He advises of his opposition to government financing and suggests that any Baptist churches without representation at the Convention send a resolution or letter to make their position known.

A letter written to T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from M. J. Stehle, Ballinger, Texas, dated September 5, 1952. Stehle explains the check not clearing and requests that Carswell send the check back through the bank, thanking him for his kindness.
