Caption: "City-owned street painting equipment, operated by city emploees, put neat parking lines Sunday on the parking lot on NW 2 east of Broadway, owned by Uptown Parking Corps, and managed by Leonard H. Dickerson, ward three councilman. Ross Taylor, city manager, said Monday he was opening an investigation of the use of city equipment on a privetly owned parking lot. Ernest J. Hearn, superintendent of the city's sign and paint department, of 2118 SW 26, admitted the paint machines used Sunday was "an old one we have down there." Hear said he, Burrell "Bush" Michaelis, paint foreman of 1233 SW 33; Richard Hen, paint crew employe of the city, 1021 SW 40, and a fourth man not a city employe did the work. Dickerson paid them $1.50 an hour for their work, hearn said."

Caption: "Newman Memorioal Hospital in Shattuck, a major portion of which was destroyed by fire early Monday, was a symbol of the devoted service of its founder, the late Dr. O. C. Newman. Dr. Newman came to Ellis County in 1900 as a 24-year-old physician just one year out of medical school. His work in the county started at Grand, not on current maps of the area, but located about 20 miles southeast of Shattuck in what was then Day County. The young doctor came to the area from Ohio and served as a typical "county doctor" and to supplement his income he was deputy county clerk, deputy county treasurer, worked in (missing rest) Smoke billows from the Newman Memorial Hospital in Shattuck as firemen battle blaze early Monday."

Caption: "Whoosh was the word as this old Channel 19 tower, located one-fourth east of Kelly on Britton Rd. came crashing to the ground Friday (below). The 920-foot steel structure, weighing 20 tons, buckled as it fell and landed doubled up (right). Channel 19 was closed in 1955 and the towe has been used since by ham operators and private firm vehicles. KOCO-TV, which now owns the property, tore down the tower and will replace it with a new one."
