In this paper we study the properties of a relation, H, between two sets, X and Y, H ⊆ X x Y. We wish to determine when the existence of H between some elements of X and Y implies the existence of H between other composite elements of X and Y. The aim is to characterize a relation by its extension or restriction to composite elements.

A finite element method is presented which utilizes a three dimensional quadrilateral finite element with a stiffness matrix developed in cylindrical coordinated. The method is used to study the behavior of layer cylinders due to asymmetric static thermal loadings. Two types of bonding, rigid and flexible are considered. Additional examples including a pressurized thick walled cylinder and a cylindrical shell under pressure and thermal loadings are presented.

Results of studies performed by Isotopes, Inc., Nuclear Systems Division, to optimize and baseline a TAGS-85/2N RTG for the Viking Lander Capsule prime electrical power source are presented. These studies generally encompassed identifying the Viking RTG mission profile and design requirements, and establishing a baseline RTG design consistent with these requirements.
