The writer discusses plans of the Santa Fe railroad and how it will affect Abilene. The people of Abilene quickly counteracted these plans and now rely on specific men to keep these measures going. The writer discusses an investment to be made in Abilene for its prosperity that can be recovered in three years.

Letter from W. G. Swanson to Henry Sayles discussing the route covered in his travels. Swanson describes the route and its sufficiency for a railroad line, specifically through Lubbock. Swanson remits a sketch and informs Sayles he will meet him in Chicago as soon as Sayles is available.

Letter from H. P. Mansfield to Henry Sayles discussing a response to the previous letter would have come sooner if not for outside business. He mentions the origin of the McAlpine tax statement and the evidence provided by the tax collector. Mansfield mentions checking the tax collector's books before remitting any money.

He suggests a route from Waco to the coastal area of Houston and Galveston. The line would pass south of Gatesville.
