Three firemen were overcome by the heat and billowing smoke at the Capitol City Lumber Co., 27 SW 29. Two were reported taken to mercy Hospital, but neither was seriously injured, firemen at the scene said. Deputy Chief Roy Johnson said 11 engines, 4 truck companies and 4 tank pump units were employed to fight the flames, which erupted shortly after noon...Fire Marshall Ed Koch said the fire apparently started in a trash bin at the southeast corner of the building, and spread nearly instantly to the rest of the building."

Caption: "Larry Shock view entertainment while Cheryl Self chews on pretzl. 9article) To help youth have a better understanding of Christ, the Nichols Hills Baptist Church has rented a vacant church building at 2472 NW 39 and opened a "coffee house." Times photographer Dave Heaton visited Scarborough Hall, as the youths call the coffee house, for the above pictures. Bob Bender, youth director at the church, said there are three programs a night. The first part of the program is 35 minutes of entertainment featuring bands from around the city, she said. This is followed by 20 minutes of preaching. The preaching is called "testimony time" and is conducted by youths who tell "what being a Christian means to me" Bender heads up the program. The coffee house is opened Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m."

Fire roared through an Oklahoma City lumber yard Thursday, blackening most of a city block, injuring four firemen and leaving an estimated $120,000 loss. Capitol City Lumber Co., covering two-thirds of a city block with offices at 27 SW 29, was a total loss despite efforts of 21 pieces of firefighting equipment. "It went quickly...It was engulfed when we arrived," district Chief Roy Johnson said after scores of firemen battled more than an hour to control intense flames. Two firemen were hospitalized after being overcome by smoke and heat. Paul Elrod and Ted Robinson were admitted to Mercy Hospital "overnight for observation." Fireman Bob Taylor recieved facial lacerations and crew member John Rowe suffered second-degree burn to both hands. They were not hospitalized. The cause of the blaze is undetermined, but Chief Fire Marshall Ed Koch said a trash bin inside the large wooden structure ap-"

Caption: "We were very, every fortunate and I thank the good Lord more people weren't killed," a Noel firemen who witnessed a disastrous explosion in this Oklahoma-border community said Sunday. Harold Mauck watched a train car blow up 200 yards from his fire truck at 4 a.m. Sunday. it was "a huge orange-red mushroom cloud of smoke, fire and flying debris," he said. The blast - the second and most powerful of two - leveled numerous buildings and "hardly left a business or home untouched," Mauck said. The fireman said he was riding on the back of a fire truck just before 4 a.m. when the explosion occurred. The train was stopped at a crossing and started up just before the explosion, he said. The car then exploded with a "tremendous roar and a force that would have knocked me flat if I hadn't had a good hold on the truck," Mauck said."

Caption: "Adult living in a resort atmosphere is the goal of the new Woodbrier Apartments, now nearing completion on NW 38, between Ann Arbor and Grove, in Warr Acres. The $1.5 million project, on 14 1/2 acres, built by Robert P. Lammerts, is actually on a small creek which is the source of Little River. The creek which is normally almost dry will flow regularly with a small stream of water from deep wells. All of the natural big timber of the area has been left intac. The 127 units are designed to look out inot the park-like, atmosphere instead of at other apartments, with only about 14 untits to the acre compared with a normal 25 to 30...R.W. Finely was the realto who put the project together and it was designed by Alan Lower, Henry Towles is finishing up the construction. It is expected that there will be a tiny stream of clear water in the area, and the sidewalks will follow the meandering stream, which with the huge native timber will create the "resort atmosphere." "I cannot accept the manner with which you and your constiuents in City Hall are dealing with our city sanitation workers," Ronald B. Querry, 300 NW 84, said in a letter to Robert Oldland, city manager. Querry enclosed a check for $12.32 for water and sewage service, but told Oldland, he is ignoring the $5 garbage charfge, and is instead sending a check in that amount to Mrs. Clara Luper, spokesman for most of the strikers. Querry said he wants the money to be used by Mrs. Luper "in the best interest of the sanatation workers."

Caption: "Two city sanitation department crews, claiming they are short handed, joined forces today to cover two garbage collection routes. The crews were short one man each, leaving only two men to a crew to carry out their regular Monday routes. The four remaining workmen met near NW 21 and Pennsylvania were four of them began making pickups on one of the routes and then planned to move to the second route to make collections. "This is just an example of what we have to put up with," said Haywood Boone, driver for one of the crews. Boone said it is not unusual for the crews to be short one man and be required to do the same amount of work as assigned to a three man crew. Horace Jamieson, one of the collectors, said when men complain about extra work they are told by their foreman that they can be dismissed if they refuse to go out in a two-man crew.
