Caption: "I lost everything I had and I’ll never get it back," sighed Mrs. Viola Mae Matthews as she watched her apartment home go up in huge black clouds of smoke. "I worked a lifetime for what I had, now I have nothing except what I'm wearing," she said, brushing back tears forced from her misty eyes by ugly, biting smoke from her blazing home. As one who had just escaped with her life from an apartment house blaze at 24 NE 2 wednesday afternoon. Mrs Matthew's expressed the feelings of each of 15 families who lived in the fire-gutted structure. All were thankful that everyone go out without a scratch, but each was mourning the loss of his belongings. Not a single soul in the two-story brick building saved so much as a scrap of paper from the blazing dwelling. As Mrs. Calvin Fowler said, "nobody anything out...we just ran for our lives." Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "Weary Oklahoma City firemen battled their second major fire in 14 hours Thursday morning as flames gutted the First Nazarene church santuary, NW 6 and Francis. Thirty firemen - including city manager Bill Gill jr. and assistant fire chief Jake Amberg - narrowly escaped death or serious injury when the roof collapsed. Balcony Saves Them Gill and Anberg were diredting three hose crews fighting the raging blaze inside the sanctuary when the roof "popped." All ran for cover and were protected by a balcony when the roof caved in. Neither the pastor of the church, Rev. R. T. Williams, nor fire chief G. R. McAlpine could give and immediate damage estimate...The pastor - who ran into his offices underneath the sanctuary and brought out valuable church records - said the church was built in 1928 at a cost of $25,000, but "couldn't be nearlyreplaced for that." One estimate set replacement cost at $100,000. Three alarms were sounded - bringing 19 fire companies to the scene. Most of the firemen had only a few hours of rest after battling a stubborn blaze in the unit block NE 2. This …

If she don't like biscuits, feed her cornbread." They bill it as "just an old-fashioned square dance." But it's a bit different from what Oklahomans have seen. They do it with helicopters...The four H-19 helicopters are decked out in colorful square-dance costumes-two of them corn-cob pipes as "Hank" and "Henry" and two others as "Hattie" and "Harriet."...On equal billing with the square dancers is Bozo, the helicopter clown - piloted by W-O Eldred Bourne of Jackson, Miss...The yo-yo trick will be performed for the first time before the public at the airshow......A mock battle also will be staged, with 90 heli-troopers being flown in by giant Vertol helicopter to seize Will Rogers field in a 20-minute battle-with all the fireworks...The Oklahomans in the group are W-O Alva Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arch Anderson of Pyror, and W-O Bert E. Ratliff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Ratliff sr., of Ada."
