An affirmation of the support given by the membership of the Parramore Post of the President's recommendation to retain in the service indefinitely the National Guard units and Selectees already in training and ask him to spare them "no task or sacrifices now necessary for the adequate arming and defense of the nation" and state, "The policy of appeasement and 'soft soap' has brought only disappointment and destruction to those indulging in it. Therefore, we say away with appeasement and appeasers, together with isolationists and objectors of every tint."

McIntyre expresses his appreciation for the telegram from Carswell and Ellis on behalf of the Post members adding that the President will be grateful for the loyal interest evidenced and for the word of approval.

Young provides information regarding the assignment of a room, touches on a possible membership contest and commends Carswell for the fine spirit he has always shown in the Legion work.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Post Commander Parramore Post, American Legion, Abilene, Texas, from Sam M. Russell, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C., dated August 7, 1941. Russell expresses his appreciation for the letter from Carswell containing a copy of the telegram that was written by the Post and sent to the President. He discusses the question of retaining selectees and guardsmen beyond their one year of service, the concern regarding building a mass army while not yet having properly equipped those now in training. He advises that the real issue is what their position is relative to their involvement in the world conflict.

A letter written to Mr. Thomas N. Carswell, Post Commander, Parramore Post, Abilene, Texas, from W. Lee O'Daniel, Texas, United States Senate, dated August 8, 1941. O'Daniel acknowledges the receipt of the letter which included a copy of the telegram Carswell sent to the President and notes that he is glad to know of Carswell's views in this matter.

Palmer, Post Adjutant, Midland, Texas, dated August 9, 1941. Preston acknowledges the announcement by Carswell that the Post has Abilene's hat in the ring for the 1942 Departmental Convention assuring Carswell that he is "rootin' for you all the way".

Thomas, Major, Infantry, T.D.G., Plans and Training Officer, dated August 15, 1941. Thomas advises Turner that his letter to Colonel Banister has been referred to him for reply assuring Turner that The Department appreciates his unselfish services and suggests that he write to Captain Vernon L. Yearby, Chaplain 4th Battalion, Clint, Texas.

A letter addressed to Mr. Thomas N. Carswell, Post Commander, Parramore Post 57, Abilene, Texas, from Tom Connally, United States Senate, dated August 15, 1941. Connally expresses his appreciation for his letter and the copy of the telegram Carswell sent to the President. He advises Carswell of his own support of the bill to extend the service of selectees and his disapproval of the propaganda being sent out under Senator Wheeler's sponsorship.

Turner, Captain, Infantry, 10th Battalion, Texas Defense Guard, McMurry College, Abilene, Texas, dated August 20, 1941. Turner advises Carswell that he has enclosed a copy of a letter that he received from the office of Col. Bannister, deems the enclosed letter self-explanatory and assures Carswell of his interest in the guard and of his desire to be of service. Invitation issued to Major Carswell and his men of the Texas Defense Guard to attend the REGIONAL REVIEW, INSPECTION and BARBEQUE in Odessa, Texas. A form letter from W. J. Wisdom, 17th Dist. Commander, The American Legion, Stephenville, Texas, dated August 7, 1942. Wisdom advises of the selection of Carswell as a member of the Department Convention Committee on Rules, and stresses that attendance at the convention is important.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Floyd Chaffin, Pastor, First Baptist Church, Coleman, Texas, dated August 24, 1942. Chaffin acknowledges the receipt of the letter from Carswell regarding the effort to drive out the liquor traffic, expresses his desire to present the matter to the association and requests from Carswell a definite plan to follow as to how he thinks best to "go about it".

A letter addressed to T. N. Carswell, from C. E. Hereford, D. D., Pastor, First Baptist Church, Lubbock, Texas, dated August 25, 1942. Hereford replies to a request from Carswell regarding a meeting with church leaders in Lubbock and requests that Carswell wait until the preachers return to plan a conference. He assures Carswell that he feels they will be interested in a Field Day.

A letter addressed to Col. Royden Williamson, Public Relations Officer, Eighth Corps Service Command, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, dated August 26, 1942. Carswell requests of Williamson that it be made possible for Lt. Col. Julian C. Hyer to be present for the main address at the dedication of the Parramore Post, American Legion building.

A letter written to Bishop Ivin Lee Holt, Dallas, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman 24th District United Texas Drys dated August 26, 1942. Carswell advises Holt of a letter that he is writing to the Baptist associations and expresses his desire to "get this matter before the Methodist people". He advises of the absence of effort or of a program save a temperance lesson from Christians on the harmful effects of beverage alcohol and of his belief that a such a course should be required in church supported schools.
