Sheppard acknowledges his receipt of the "communication" from Carswell and expresses his pleasure in having visited with Carswell while he was in Washington. He acknowledges that Carswell is leaving the Chamber of Commerce on September 1 wishing him success and adds, in a handwritten postscript, that he prizes Carswell's friendship more than he can express.
