Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "Conservation is a word of expanding meaning. Not all that has been done in its name in the 57 years since settlement is now conisdered ideal. To demonstrate the 1948 conception of conservation a 160-acre farm at NW 10 and Portland will be rebuilt in a single day, October 7, under the sponsorship of the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce. Paradoxically, the elimination of an old lake was one of the first moves in preparing the farm for the big day. But then small lakes do not remain as beauty spots forever. Overgrown with weeds and willows and heavly silted, this one's only remaining value was to neighborhood boys for a fishing hole. Once the badly-r=eroded dam was brokenby a bulldozer driven by E. C. Nelson, 1615 NW 6, the lake was quickly drained......These three pictures show the lake as it was, the breaking of the dam, and lakebed after the water drained away."
