Caption: "The campaign to spray Oklahoma City with DDT started off with a roar Monday when two planes in tight formation "fogged" the downtown area. The ships piloted by Norman Blake and Ralph Fehring, made five passes over the city, streaming long tails of vapor. The stunt was dreamed up by the Junior Chamber of Commerce, sponsors of the spraying campaign. The gag worked too wello. Jaycees had hoped citizens would believe the planes were spraying DDT fog, instead of smoke. People apparently fell for it, for they sat on the checkbooks Monday. Jaycee headquarters closed the day with only $35 in collections from merchants in the 42-block downtown area to pay for actual extermination spray planned Thursday. Cost will run about $35 a block. Other sections of the city, where no plane-borne smoke drifted, were more co-operative. More than 80 blocks of the northwest section of town, divided along Western and NW 23, were lined up for neighborhood spraying this week by mobile units."

But here she "tries on" a new chest type respirator, manipulated by nurse Laveta Link. The chestlung - Crippled Children's has one - gives the patient more freedom of movement. In an iron lung, the entire body is enclosed. Respirators are used in the more deadly bulbar polio."

Artists in steel have completed framework for a glass-enclosed dining room under the stars, an addition to the Beacon club. Architect's plans also call for enclosure of the south ledge, giving diners and unrivalled view of the city. The construction is expected to be completed in a few weeks, making one of the most unusaul outdoor dining spots in the southwest."

On weekends, as many as 1,500 persons gather on the beach. Shown getting an early morning tan are Mary Gordon Ellis and Mrs. Stanley Hefton, both of Sherman, Texas. this is one of the largest natural sand beaches in the southwest. A bath house, concession stand and various amusement devices also are at the beach."
