A Western Union telegram sent to T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, Abilene, Texas from Louis Scott Wilkerson, Assistant Secretary of State, Austin, Texas dated 1950 AUG 4 4 20 PM. Wilkerson advises Carswell, with regret, that the Barber Board in Austin is going to prosecute.

A letter addressed to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board dated August 5, 1951. Carswell recommends a full pardon for Subject.

Welsh replies to a request made by Carswell and advises of his enclosing two sets of forms to be used when applying for executive clemency.

A letter written to Governor Allan Shivers, Austin, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, dated August 27, 1952. Carswell gives his views as to the present political situation and suggests, if it is legally possible, that he would like to see two (2) sets of Electors on the Democratic ballot; one set agreeable to the National Democratic Nominees, and the other set "for the tidelands" (Eisenhower-Nixon). Carswell states that he would like to vote a straight Democratic ticket but "if I must, in order to repudiate a high handed steal openly accomplished and thinly veiled in legality by a spurious dictum - Paramount Rights - spawned for the purpose by a "Charlie McCarthy" minority of the United States Supreme Court —I shall mark out the electors on the Democratic ballot and vote for the Electors on the Republican ballot".

Carswell identifies himself as a Delegate to the convention and requests a room at the Herring, Amarillo or Capitol, mentions a mutual friend, Mr. W. E. Fraley, or Jess Rogers noting he wrote the Democratic Housing committee two weeks back and received no reply.

A letter To the Editor, written by T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, dated August 19, 1954. The letter asserts that "'Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde', has come to Texas, not in fiction, but in the person as Judge Ralph Yarborough, candidate for Governor." An attachment includes a list of Texas newspapers to receive the Letter to the Editor written by T. N. Carswell. The list is handwritten on business notepad paper advertising Maxwell Steel Co., Fort Worth 1, Texas.

A postcard addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Tex and postmarked, FT. W & El Paso ED R.P.O.TR 7, Aug 25, 1954. The reverse side includes a form letter addressed to Tommy [T. N. Carswell] from Jet Peters dated August 25, 1954. Campaign card printed for Paul Brashear for State Representative with personal handwritten note advising how as a Shivers Democrat Peters helped carry Cisco for Ike saving their Tide Lands to clean up the mess in Washington, and he congratulates Carswell saying that his article in yesterday's Star Telegram "hit the spot". Peters also asks about Abilene: "How's the West Texas Chamber of Commerce? I hear its sick financially—Do get a big kick out of your Abilene's growth. I first knew the town in 1900."

A letter written to Governor Allan Shivers, Austin, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, dated August 6, 1955. Carswell advises of the one purpose he has in writing this letter which is to express the hope that the National Committeeman selected will be one of "our color" noting that there is already some deflection in their ranks, and should one not of their number be named National Committeeman, he fears the hurt will be severe.

Shivers expresses his appreciation for the letter from Carswell dated August 6 concerning the Democratic National Committeeman. He advises Carswell that he is passing the letter along to the "proper authorities" so that they might have the benefit of Carswell's views.

A letter written to Mr. Hugh Prather, State Democratic Executive Committeeman, Dallas, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, dated August 6, 1956. Carswell expands upon a suggestion made by Prather regarding the creation of a permanent organization for conservative Democrats of Dallas County by suggesting the creation of a statewide organization and establishing Dallas county as the headquarters. He offers congratulations to Prather and Ed Drake for their "great victories in May".

A letter addressed to the members of the Taylor County Democratic Executive Committee, from C. G. Whitten, Chairman, Taylor County Democratic Executive Committee, Abilene, Texas, dated August 17, 1956. A reminder that the second primary election will be held on August 25, 1956 advising of location and date to obtain election kits and supplies. Whitten calls a committee meeting for the opening and canvassing of the returns and advises of their poor financial situation and its effects on the paid help for the elections.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from Marguerite L. Murphy, District Passenger Agent, Chicago, Duluth and Georgian Bay Transit Company, dated August 31, 1953. Murphy advises that a basket of fruit, candy and a card was placed in the cabin for Mr. J. B. Dalton as Carswell requested costing $6.48.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from George S. Anderson, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Hendrick Hospital dated August 6, 1956. Anderson issues an invitation to trustees to attend the service as E. M. Collier receives an honorary doctorate degree from Hardin-Simmons University.

A letter addressed to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, dated August 22, 1955. Carswell advises the Board regarding Subject 40-7940 which includes a confession to burglaries in Texas and the failure to comply with certain conditions of his Parole while in California.

A report from Ruby Blackburn, Administrative Assistant of the Voluntary County Parole Board System in Austin, Texas, dated August 19, 1957, and addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, Abilene, Texas. The form gives notice of the granting of the petition for the transfer of subject from Taylor County to El Paso County, and naming the subject's prospective employer as Davis, Foster and Thorps, Architects, and the parole officer as P. W. Williams.

A letter written to Bertram D. Janes, District Attorney, Plumas County, Quincy, California, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, dated August 11, 1953. Carswell advises Janes that he has enclosed a Notice of Intention of Subject A-9803 to apply for Pardon and Restoration and advises of progress made by Subject for the two years while under his supervision explaining that he urges his worthy parolees to regain their citizenship.

Gordon, Administrator, Interstate Parole Compact, Sacramento 14, California, from Howard Carney, Administrator, Interstate Parole Compact (by Betty Christian, Chief, Parole Division), Department of State, Texas, dated August 12, 1953. Christian acknowleges receipt of the letter from Gordon regarding Subject 9803 - A, and advises Gordon of the Subject being granted a Certificate of Discharge and that the Subject's file will be closed. Typewritten at the bottom of the page is correspondence from B C [Betty Christian] to Mr. Carswell requesting he close his files on the case and the Certificate of Discharge be given to Subject.

A letter addressed to Jack Ross, Parole and Probation Compact Admin., Austin, Texas, from G. R. Klopfenstein, Chief (by R. N. McMichael, Placement Supervisor), Bureau of Probation and Parole, Columbus 15, Ohio, dated August 19, 1954. Advisement from the State of Ohio that Subject 95040 was granted a parole with the stipulation that the Texas Authorities be notified but that they have not yet been advised whether or not Subject will be taken into custody. A request is made to have an officer investigate placement in Abilene, Texas and advises of attached classification material. Attached is a Request of Sending State (Ohio) for Investigation regarding Subject OP 95040 addressed to Jack Ross, Parole and Probation Compact Administration, Austin, Texas from G. R. Klopfenstein, Chief, Bureau of Probation and Parole, Columbus 15, Ohio dated August 19, 1954. Proposed Residence is Abilene, Texas.

A letter written to Allen N. Carswell from Norwood [T. N. Carswell], dated August 29, 1959. T. N. Carswell acknowledges his receipt of the Trust Agreement and discusses certain points in the Trust suggesting that Allen have a good lawyer draw up a will.

Russell acknowledges his receipt of and expresses his appreciation for Carswell's letter regarding the Landrum-Griffin Labor Reform bill and H. R. 3. and advises that he supports both measures in the Senate.
