The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Clifford, Fritz. Fritz joined the Navy in August 1945 and trained at Samson, New York. After training, he was shipped to Hawaii and became a motor machinist and was assigned to the USS Buttress (AGC-4). Fritz suffered from seasickness. He stayed in the Navy for one year, being discharged in August, 1946.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Robert Bridge. Bridge was inducted into the Army on 10 November 1943. During basic training he volunteered for paratrooper duty, but failed the physical and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne as a glider infantryman. He crossed the Atlantic on a troop carrier and arrived at a camp outside Leicester, England on 24 May 1944. His glider was a Waco CG 4A model. He describes his participation in Operation Market Garden during September 1944. Bridge participated in a glider landing near the city of Grave, Netherlands and secured a bridge over the Waal River. The 82nd Airborne Division retreated to a French army camp in Sissonne following the action in Holland. He describes being involved in the Battle of the Bulge but does not provide details. He recalls his unit made it to Cologne, Germany where they held the west bank of the Rhine River for more than a month. Bridge remembers entering Hamburg, Germany and fighting up the Elbe River where they met up with the Russians. He spent three months on occupation duty in Germany following the war and returned on the RMS Queen Mary arriving …

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Thomas C. Griffin. Griffin was commissioned a lieutenant in the Coast Artillery through the Army ROTC program at the University of Alabama in 1939. Griffin served with the 61st Coast Artillery from July 1939 to July 1940, when he became an Aviation Cadet with the Army Air Corps. He was re-commissioned and awarded his Navigator Wings in June 1941. Griffin volunteered for the Doolittle Raid and was the navigator on the ninth B-25 to take off. After bombing their assigned targets in Tokyo, the crew bailed out over China when their aircraft ran out of fuel. Griffin remained in China and served with the 34th Bomb Squadron from April to August 1942, where he flew 1 additional combat mission. He next joined the 438th Bomb Squadron of the 319th Bomb Group, flying the B-26 Marauder, and left for England in September 1942. Griffin flew 19 combat missions in North Africa before being shot down and taken as a prisoner of war of Germany in July 1943. He was placed in Stalag Luft III. He was released in late April 1945, and left active duty the following February. Griffin remained …

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Thomas Alt. Alt joined the Aviation Cadet Corps in June of 1942 at the age of 17. By January of 1943, once he turned 18, he was called up for training. In mid-1943 he traveled to Pearl Harbor, and completed Fire Fighting School with the Navy while on the island. In mid-1944 Alt was assigned to the USS Sea Cat (SS-399). He worked as Military Police on night shifts and guard duty in the brig. They traveled to Saipan and the South China Sea where the Sea Cat operated in a wolf pack. He landed on Saipan 7 July 7, as the battle was coming to an end. He served with a firefighting crew on the beach for pilots making emergency or crash landings. Alt remained on Saipan through early 1945. He was stationed on Tinian in July, and recalls when the Enola Gay landed. He returned to the US and was discharged in March of 1945.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Clifford Jenke. Jenke was born in Houston, Texas 25 February 1927. On 7 December 1942, at the age of fifteen, he joined the Navy after receiving written approval from his parents. After undergoing six week of boot training at San Diego, he was assigned to the USS Mizar as the pointer on a five inch deck gun. Soon thereafter, the ship departed for Sydney, Australia. Jenke recalls being attacked by a Japanese submarine, which was subsequently driven off by destroyers accompanying the convoy. Three weeks after their arrival, he was sent to Brisbane. After spending a night on the submarine tender USS Fulton (AS-11), he volunteered and was accepted for submarine duty. Assigned as an electrician striker on the USS Scamp (SS-277), he describes the battery propulsion system of the submarine. He recalls sinking a Japanese submarine, HIJMS I-24, during his first patrol aboard the Scamp. After making three patrols aboard the Scamp, he was transferred to the USS Dace (SS-247). With Jenke aboard, the Dace, working in conjunction with the USS Darter (SS-227), sank HIJMS Maya and HIJMS Atago in October 1944. The Dace made eight successful …

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Jerell E. Crow. He entered the Coast Guard in 1940 and trained in Florida and New York City. He served aboard a Landing Ship, Tank (LST) when those ships were first introduced. He traveled to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the Neville Island Shipyard operated by the Dravo Corporation as part of a crew that brought an LST down the Mississippi River to New Orleans. From there, the crew practiced operations at Biloxi, Mississippi. Evetually, Crow travelled to San Diego aboard the LST through the Panama Canal. From there, he went to Guadalcanal and unloaded tanks. Evetually, his ship was hit at Saipan and he was wounded. He also served aboard an LST during the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Afterwards, Crow's LST was present in Tokyo Bay for the surrender. He visited Hiroshima while on occupation duty after the atomic bomb was dropped. Eventually, his LST made its way back to San Francisco where he was discharged.
